Planning poker FAQ

What is planning poker? Planning poker is an agile estimation technique where the team assigns story points to backlog items using numbered cards. Everyone votes at once to reduce anchoring bias, then discusses differences before agreeing on an estimate.

Is Estimationline free? Yes. Estimationline is free to use for live planning poker sessions. Create a room, invite your team with a link, and estimate without creating an account.

Do teammates need to install anything? No. Estimationline runs in the web browser. Share the room link; each person opens it on their phone, tablet, or laptop and votes on their own device.

Which card decks are supported? Standard Fibonacci (0–100), Modified Fibonacci, Powers of Two, T-shirt sizes (XS–XXL), and Linear 1–10 — plus special cards for unknowns and break suggestions.

How does Estimationline pick a recommended estimate? After reveal, the app computes an ordinal median across numeric votes, applies your tie-break preference, and surfaces mode, spread, and consensus — so facilitators commit a statistically defensible number.

Can we use Estimationline for remote or hybrid teams? Yes. Estimationline is built for distributed teams: real-time sync, private rooms, optional passwords, and a visual table so everyone sees votes flip together after reveal.

Is our backlog data stored on your servers? Live rooms are ephemeral session state for estimation. For sensitive backlogs, use story titles only or your own issue keys; rooms expire after idle time.
